Although Macanudo cigars do not compare to premium Cuban cigars such as the Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta, according to Terry Pomerantz they are “very good cigars that offer a range of strengths from mild (Macanudo Café) to robust (Macanudo Red Toro), with a wide selection of medium strength options (Inspirado White, Crü Royal).”
The Legacy of the Macanudo Brand
The story of the Macanudo brand began in Guatemala, where Cuban Punch cigar manufacturers assembled a cigar size known as “Macanudo”. Later, in 1960, Macanudo became part of the Jamaican Temple Hall brand, who distributed the cigars in Great Britain. Finally, in 1968, it was acquired by the General Cigar Company. Under the leadership of Alfons Mayer, and subsequently Ramòn Fuentes ‒ creator of the famous Partagàs‒ General Cigar enhanced Macanudo by using the finest tobacco sourced from various countries, including the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Nicaragua, and Mexico.
In 2000, the entire production of Macanudo cigars was transferred to the Dominican Republic. Since then, the global success of Macanudo cigars has never waned!
The Advantages of Macanudo Cigars: Qualities and Aroma
Impeccably made, Macanudo cigars are made from meticulously aged tobacco and are expertly assembled by hand, by exceptional artisans. They are mainly mild to medium strength cigars.
Macanudo cigars are available in several types and sizes, including the Corona Gorda, Robusto, Toro, Grand Toro, Toro Gordo, Perfecto, Petit Panatela, and Churchill. Here are a few examples:
Macanudo Café. This is the brand’s iconic cigar. This Corona Gorda with a mild profile is perfect for those who wish to begin smoking cigars. The Macanudo Café also offers great depth for seasoned enthusiasts. With its smooth draw and light brown Connecticut Shade wrapper, the Macanudo Café unfolds with spicy notes and a moderately full taste.
The Macanudo Inspirado Black features a robust blend of Dominican, Honduran, and Nicaraguan tobacco that releases chocolate, spice, and roasted nut undertones.
The Macanudo Inspirado White is made with a medium mild blend of Indonesian, Nicaraguan, and Mexican tobaccos wrapped in an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. The Inspirado White offers creamy flavours accented by hints of coffee.
The Macanudo Emissary France consists of a blend of tobacco from five countries, including rare French tobacco grown in the Mugron Valley, south of Bordeaux. The Emissary France exudes notes of sea salt and dark fruits.
The Macanudo Crü Royale Giguante belongs to giant cigar trend (6 x 60) with medium strength. It unifies Nicaraguan and Brazilian tobacco, bound together by La Vega Especial Dominicana, in an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. It yields a bouquet of leather, nuts, and spices.
