Best cigar humidifiers

“A good cigar is precious. That’s why I consider the humidifier for my cigar humidor to be very important.” (Terry Pomerantz)

How to humidify a cigar box?

      The traditional method

If you have an artisan’s soul, you can humidify your cigar box with a clean cloth dampened with distilled water, by gently rubbing the inside. Then, you can place a glass of water in your cigar humidor and wait 3 days. The wood of the humidor and your cigars will have absorbed the water. This procedure must be repeated each month.

If you prefer a simpler, more effective, and more precise solution, you can opt for humidifiers in gel, beads, foam, or sachet form, or even an electronic humidifier.

Is a humidifier good for cigars?

The humidifier for a cigar case, especially the electronic humidifier, is easier to use and more precise than traditional manual humidification.

What humidity level for a cigar humidor?

Cigars were practically invented in Cuba! It is estimated that the average humidity level at which the Cuban climate allows cigar tobacco to dry and be preserved is around 70%. That is why the hygrometer in your cigar humidor should indicate a humidity level between 65% and 75%.

Types of cigar humidifiers

Floral foam humidifiers: They attach to the lid of the cigar humidor using a magnet. They work by absorbing excess humidity and must be filled with distilled water every 2 weeks. It is important to regularly check that the humidity level remains around 70%.

    Crystal gel

Crystal gel humidifiers: They absorb 500 times their weight in liquid. Pour distilled water into the crystal container until it is completely full. The crystals will swell and become rubbery, then quickly release the humidity. Refill every 2 to 4 weeks and replace the crystals annually.

Silica bead humidifiers: The beads absorb up to 40 times their weight in water. They must first be soaked in distilled water before being placed in the cigar box. Humidify the silica beads every 2 or 4 weeks, with a useful life of 3 to 6 years.

    Humidification sachets

Humidification sachets: Salt and water are premixed in these sachets. Depending on the formula, a sachet generates 65%, 69%, 72%, or 75% humidity. Simply place the sachet directly on the cigars or attach it to the lid of your cigar box with sticky tape. One pack is sufficient for 25 cigars and should be replaced every 2 or 3 months.

Electronic humidifiers: Equipped with integrated thermometers and hygrometers, the electronic humidifier continually and precisely monitors the relative humidity of your cigar humidor using electronic sensors that release moisture when the level is too low. The reservoir must be refilled every month with distilled water, and it is powered by batteries or by plugging into a wall outlet.
