Terry Pomerantz introduces us to the petite Italian cigars, Toscanello.
The History of Toscano Cigars
In Tuscany, August 2015, near the manufacturing plant, a significant batch of quality tobacco is drying under the sun when a downpour soaks the batch.
Instead of discarding the tobacco, someone decides to use it to produce affordable cigars. Having fermented, this moist tobacco acquired an unmatched flavor.
The Florentines immediately embraced it, and the reputation of Toscano cigars spread throughout Italy.
The Origin of Toscanello Cigars
Following World War II, Toscano developed the smaller Toscanello cigars, a far more affordable version of the Toscano cigars. The low price of Toscanello petites and their popularity encouraged smokers to share these ‘Cigars of Friendship’.
Composition of Toscanello Cigars
Made in Italy, Toscanello cigars blend Italian and Kentucky tobaccos in a Connecticut wrapper.
Toscanello cigars develop intense notes of oak, pepper, and barbecue.

Main Features of Toscanello Cigars
Unlike Cohiba and Bolivar, Toscanello cigars are not among the best in the world. According to Terry Pomerantz, “The Toscanello Speciale are fun little cigars to smoke with an espresso. These cigarillos reminisce those of cowboys from Sergio Leone’s films like Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
The Formats
In addition to the Toscanello Speciale and classic Toscanello with earthy and toasted bread aromas, Toscanello cigars are available in several flavored versions. These include Toscanello Café, Macchiato, Cioccolato, Grappa, and Vanilla.
Price of Toscanello Cigars
In Canada, it is possible to buy a box of 5 Toscanello for about $20 or less. In Quebec, you can purchase them in good specialty tobacco shops. Elsewhere in Canada, where provincial laws permit, you can also buy them online on specialized sites.
